Guest post: A Simple One-Stroke Nail Art Tutorial by Brijit

Hello! Iriel and I agreed to do a guest-post swap, and so, while I’ll be hosting her post, I’ve put together a little tutorial for her!

¡Hola! Iriel y yo acordamos hacer un intercambio de posts invitados, así que, mientras yo presento su post, ¡he hecho un pequeño tutorial para ella!

First of all, I am no expert at one-stroke nail art. Actually, the point of this is that it is a nail art that you can do to practice, where it doesn’t matter too much if your one-stroke hasn’t gone perfectly to plan. For now, all you need to do is load the brush properly and learn to swirl it around a bit !

Primero que nada, no soy experta en la técnica de “una pincelada”. En realidad, el punto de esto es que es una técnica que puedes usar para practicar, en donde no importa mucho si tu pincelada no fue tan perfecta. Por ahora, todo lo que tienes que hacer es cargar el pincel apropiadamente y aprender a girarlo un poco.

 So, this is what we’re going to aim for: / Esto es lo que vamos a intentar hacer:

You will need:

• A base colour (I used Essie – Lady Like)
• Some scrap paper for test strokes
• 2 colours of acrylic paint (I used Ouli – blue and a half-and-half mix of white and blue)
• A white liner pen or white polish with a fine liner brush & small dotting tool
• A decent one-stroke brush

Necesitarás:

• Un color de base (yo usé Lady Like de Essie)
• Papel de borrador para practicar pinceladas.
• 2 colores de pintura acrílica (yo usé Ouli, azul y una mezcla mitad y mitad entre blanco y azul)
• Un bolígrafo blanco o esmalte blanco con un pincel delineador fino y una dotting tool pequeña.
• Un pincel decente para la técnica de una pincelada.

The brush I used is also made by Ouli, the most important thing is that it’s flat and quite small (about ¼ inch max). A reasonably good quality is best, the bristles should feel smooth and silky and should not fall out – but many of these are included in basic nail art brush sets ! Of course, an eyeliner brush makes a good substitute.

Pop a couple of coats of your base colour on, wait for it to dry, and let’s get started!

El pincel que usé también fue hecho por Ouli, lo más importante es que tiene que ser chato y pequeño (de uno 2,5 cm). Es mejor que sea de una calidad razonablemente buena, las cerdas deben sentirse suaves y sedosas y no deben caerse – ¡muchas de estas son incluidas en sets básicos de pinceles para nail art! Por supuesto, un pincel delineador puede ser un buen reemplazo.

Pinta algunas capas de tu color de base, espera que se sequen, ¡y empecemos!

Load the brush with two small beads of your acrylic paint colours, of roughly equal size.

To get that lovely blending effect between the two colours, you need to swipe the brush along your paper a bit, go back and forth with the brush held as perpendicular to the page as you can comfortably manage.

Carga el pincel con dos gotas de los dos colores de pintura acrílica, de más o menos el mismo tamaño.

Para conseguir ese lindo efecto de mezcla entre los dos colores, tienes que girar un poco el pincel sobre el papel, ir y volver con el pincel sostenido tan perpendicular al papel como puedas.

When your brush is saturated, at least half way up the bristles (this should only take 4-5 strokes, don’t get too carried away or you’ll mix the colours right up!), grab another couple of beads of paint,  making sure that you have put them on the same corners of the brush, and start practicing some wavy strokes.

Cuando el pincel esté empapado, por lo menos hasta la mitad de las cerdas (esto debería llevar cuatro o cinco pinceladas, ¡no te emociones mucho o mezclarás los colores enseguida!), agarra otro par de gotas de pintura, asegúrate de que las pusiste en las mismas esquinas del pincel, y empieza a practicar algunas pinceladas onduladas.

The basic one-stroke technique that we are going to use is just a very tight C-shape, when you have done some wavy strokes and practiced that a bit, try on your nails!

A set of 3 tight C-shapes together will give you a basic petals pattern – place them around the sides of your nails, it is more flattering if you make a mistake!

La técnica básica de una pincelada que vamos a usar es solo una forma de C muy ceñida. Cuando hayas hecho algunas pinceladas onduladas y practicado un poco, ¡inténtalo en las uñas!

Un set de tres formas de C ceñidas juntas te dará un patrón de pétalos básico -ubícalos a los lados de tus uñas, ¡queda mejor así por si cometes un error!

One of the big advantages of acrylic paint is that it is opaque, so if you make a mistake, just try again ! You can position these totally randomly, 1-2 flowers per nail is fine. On my little finger, you can see I made 3 tight C-shapes one after the other to form a flower. That’s okay, but if you can, try to do the three strokes without lifting the brush – this will give a smoother shape, like on the other nails.

With a bit of patience, you can do your other hand, too!

Una de las mayores ventajas de la pintura acrílica es que es opaca, entonces si cometes un error, ¡podés intentarlo otra vez! Puedes posicionarlos totalmente al azar, una o dos flores por uña es suficiente. En mi meñique puede ver que hice tres formas de C ceñidos una tras otra hasta formar una flor. Eso está bien, pero si puedes, intenta hacer las tres pinceladas sin levantar el pincel -esto le dará una forma más suave, como en las demás uñas.

¡Con un poquito de paciencia puedes hacer la otra mano también!

It’s no big deal if you get paint on your skin, it will come off with a bit of polish remover on a cotton bud (Q-tip).

Then, outline the flowers in white. Add a few white dots to the centre and some randomly placed wavy lines between the flowers, and there it is !

No es problema si te manchás la piel con pintura, saldrá con un poquito de quitaesmalte en un hisopo.

Luego, delinea las flores con blanco. Agrega algunos puntos blancos en el centro y algunas líneas onduladas entre las flores, ¡y ya está!

Any mistakes in the one-stroke can be camoflaged with well-placed dots or outline, making this just right for beginners like myself :)
